Thomas A. Planchard, MD

Ophthalmologist Thomas A. Planchard, MD - PhotoBorn and raised in Louisiana, Thomas A. Planchard, MD, graduated from Tulane University in 1971 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He went on to enter the university’s medical school where he earned his medical degree four years later. He then completed an internship and residency at Ochsner Foundation Hospital and affiliate hospitals before serving as an ophthalmologist in the Air Force. Board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1980, Dr. Planchard is a past board member and medical director of the Northwest Louisiana Lion’s Eye Bank. He now works in private practice as an ophthalmologist in Bossier City and is an assistant clinical professor of ophthalmology at LSU Medical School.

Since opening his private practice in 1981, Thomas A. Planchard, MD, has performed more than 15,000 surgical procedures and is now considered a leading Bossier City, Louisiana LASIK surgeon. He has been a pioneer in bringing the latest treatments and technologies to patients. He was one of the first surgeons to do extracapsular cataract extraction and phacoemulsification with a posterior chamber lens. Norman A Zaffater, Jr., MD

Ophthalmologist Norman A. Zaffater, MD - PhotoA Louisiana native, Norman A. Zaffater, MD, graduated with a BS in Microbiology from Louisiana State University, before earning his medical degree from the university’s medical school in 1993. He also completed an ophthalmology residency and transitional internship at the college. His extensive continuing education includes courses in laser vision correction treatments and technology, and he is certified on multiple laser systems. His ongoing commitment to continuing education is what sustains Dr. Zaffater’s position in the community as a leading ophthalmologist in the Bossier City area.

Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology in 1998, Dr. Zaffater is an assistant clinical professor of ophthalmology at Louisiana State University Medical School. As a leading Louisiana LASIK surgeon, Dr. Zaffater was involved in early research of the excimer laser used in the LASIK procedure at LSU Medical School in New Orleans in 1992. This research focused on the healing effect of the cornea. Dr. Zaffater was then a clinical investigator for the FDA trials of a device that makes cataract surgery safer when there is instability of the cataract and lens implant during the procedure.

Norman A. Zaffater MD was one of the first surgeons in the area to provide the surgical correction of reading vision with use of the bifocal lens implant. Along with Dr. Planchard, he was also one of the first in the Ark-La-Tex region to perform Custom LASIK and “all laser” LASIK with the Intralase. In addition to being a skilled ophthalmologist, Dr. Zaffater is also extensively trained in the use of BOTOX® Cosmetic for treatment of facial lines, as well as surgical procedures to correct eyelid problems.
